RAGTIME FESTIVAL
The music on these 2 CDs originates from three sessions recorded in
St. Louis MO during the 15th, 16th and 17th National Ragtime Festivals
held during June '79, '80,'81. Most of the tracks were previously issued
on three Jazz & Jazz LPs, but all the tracks have been remixed and
digitally remastered, including the previously unused tunes. The OSDJB
personnel was unchanged for the three sessions, although Ernie Carson
joined them for the second session and the whole of the Turk Murphy Jazz
Band of San Francisco joined them for the third session in 1981.
The recording session with Turk
Murphy originated back in 1979, when the two bands combined on stage in
the "Goldenrod Showboat" for the last set. This had become traditional at
the St. Louis National Ragtime Festival but it wasn't until 1981 that the
bands could combine for a recording session. |
