The Original Salty Dogs Jazz Band
LIVE! On The Goldenrod
Showboat
Fans of the Original Salty Dogs Jazz Band will find this recording unique
compared with previously issued material. This is the band’s first album
using two cornets in the front line – Lew Green and Ernie Carson. It was
recorded live in the theater of the Goldenrod showboat during the St.
Louis Ragtime Festival in June 1982.
The Goldenrod, America’s oldest showboat produced theater and musical
performances and was the site of the St. Louis Ragtime Festival from it’s
beginning on the St. Louis Levee to the final days in St. Charles. The
Salty Dogs was the headliner band for over 30 years, and performed with
some of the greatest traditional jazz bands and ragtime performers in
America including Turk Murphy, The Jim Cullum Band, Eubie Blake, Max
Morath, South Frisco Jazz Band, Tom Shea, and the St. Louis Ragtimers.
This recording illustrates just how hot and loose sessions on the
Goldenrod could be |
